Lid I-5's Freeway Lids Bike Tour

Register for the Freeway Lids Bike Tour!

June 22nd at 9am

Begins at NE corner of University Playground Park (4745 9th Avenue NE)

Pedal with the volunteer-led Lid I-5 Steering Committee on a bike tour of the University District/Wallingford lid study area and under-construction and completed lids over State Route 520. You'll learn about the latest milestones with public policy and funding that are making the project happen. We'll be guided by local partners from the U District Partnership and Seattle Office of Planning and Community Development.

The June 22nd tour starts 9:00 AM at the northeast corner of University Playground Park (4745 9th Avenue NE). We'll ride the perimeter of the potential future lid site and then travel through the University District and UW campus on our way to the under-construction Montlake Lid. From there we will cross the SR-520 bridge and visit three new lids on the Eastside. You'll learn about the unifying history of these projects, see how lids have enhanced neighborhood connections, and hear critiques on landscape and urban design.

Participants bring their own bikes. This tour is not suitable for beginner bicyclists, although kids are welcome. The route is approximately 8 miles one-way and includes sustained uphill climbs and riding in mixed traffic. At the end of the tour participants can bike back to Seattle on their own or load their bike on a bus at the Yarrow Point freeway station (separate bus fare required).

Optional donations help sustain our efforts for the years to come, through our fiscal partnership with the Seattle Parks Foundation.
