Summary
As a show of community solidarity, we invite community members, allied organizations, and partners to congregate at Rainier Arts Center on Thursday August 8th from 6-8pm for a public forum on the One Seattle Plan. Dinner will be provided, along with childcare for children ages 3-12. Please RSVP.
During the Comprehensive Plan’s period of public review, several community response letters were sent to the Mayor, OPCD, and City Council Members, asking for a more equitable disbursement of City development throughout the neighborhoods of Seattle. Neighborhoods with high rates of displacement cannot continue to bear the burden of accommodating all of Seattle’s growth and housing density.
The intent of the forum is to create a community-centered space where we can collectively identify key themes of what’s missing and share ideas of how we may strengthen the One Seattle Plan serve as a bold and inspiring vision of the future of our communities.
During the forum, we’ll have a mix of presentations, small group discussions, and Q&A. Community members will be given the chance to voice their concerns and give direct feedback on the Comprehensive Plan. We will invite City leaders to attend as guests in an active listening capacity.
Comprehensive Plan Update
The City of Seattle recently released a draft of its 20-year Comprehensive Plan called the One Seattle Plan. For those who don’t know, a comprehensive plan is a state mandated roadmap for how the City will accommodate for population growth and invest in future developments. It will impact zoning and urban plans for the next two decades.
The period of public review and commentary ended in May of 2024, and it is now up to the Mayor and the Office of Planning & Community Development to revise the draft plan and present it by the end of this summer.
