Co-curator of An Indigenous Present, a landmark exhibition coming to the Frye in November, Jeffrey Gibson creates work that combines traditional Native American artistic practices with abstraction and pop culture references. From bold geometric paintings on rawhide to beaded punching bags, Gibson draws on traditional techniques and materials to engage contemporary culture and his own heritage.
