Monteverdi Vespers of 1610
Vox Luminis
Lionel Meunier, founder and artistic director
presented by Early Music Seattle

Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 (formally titled "Vespro della Beata Vergine") is a monumental work of sacred music that bridges the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Setting traditional Latin texts for the evening service of Vespers, including several psalms and the Magnificat, it combines traditional Gregorian chant with innovative compositional techniques of the emerging Baroque style. Using one voice per part and a company of ace period instrumentalists, Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier direct their exceptional collective artistry and long experience of music from the early Baroque to the performance of one of western classical music's richest achievements.

The Belgian early music ensemble Vox Luminis, led by bass singer Lionel Meunier, specialises in English, Italian and German repertoire from the 17th and early 18th century and is internationally acclaimed for its unique sound. A core of vocal soloists is supplemented, depending on the repertoire, with an extensive continuo, solo instruments or a complete orchestra. Vox Luminis is artist in residence at Concertgebouw Brugge.
