Enjoy an evening immersed in all things zine as we celebrate Mapping the Gaze, a new zine companion to the Frye Parlor designed by Jayme Yen and Lexi McCauley, featuring 925 original poetic phrases contributed by the Frye community (yes, we counted).
Experiment with Mad-Libs-style poetry, DIY publishing, and more! Let your creativity run free, possibly in a zigzag line, held together by staples.

Drop-in Zine Studio
Craft your own DIY zine during Drop-in Studio—no experience needed. We’ll provide the supplies; you provide the creativity.
Music & Zine Browsing
Explore the Frye Parlor, enjoy music, flip through Mapping the Gaze, and dive into a curated spread of zines provided by our friends at Paper Press Punch and The Hideout.
Open Mic
Bring a line that made you giggle, gasp, or reflect. Whether it’s a fresh creation or a found phrase, step up to the mic and share it with the crowd in the Frye Parlor.

About the Project:
First artist Jayme Yen read the room, and designed a poster inspired by works in Frye Salon. Next, she designed the inaugural concept for Frye Parlor, translating the words from her design into an immersive environment. Then, she invited us to play along with an in-gallery activity called Reading the Room, Mapping the Gaze. Finally, along with Frye designer Lexi McCauley, she collected the worksheet submissions and translated the readings into the zine Mapping the Gaze: Visitor’s Readings of the Frye Salon. Starting February 26, the zine will be available for your reading pleasure in Frye Parlor x Jayme Yen.
Jayme Yen is a graphic designer whose work explores the poetics of visual information and the reader’s experience of word, page, screen, and space. She is a co-organizer of the Seattle Art Book Fair and an assistant professor of design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Lexi McCauley is a Seattle-based designer, visual artist, and longtime zine lover. When she’s not at work as the Frye’s graphic designer, Lexi enjoys making music, art, and zines (of course) with her friends.
